BREATHE IN, BREATHE OUT - 2020 - Christine Rebet

Inspired by a recent journeys in the north of Thailand Breathe In, Breathe Out, follows the spiritual journey of a monk as he descends a mountain. On the screen, animal, plant, and architectural transformations evoke nature and its devastation.

The film was produced as part of Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain’s Nomadic Nights program for their exhibition, Trees, with the related drawings forming part of a performance. Narrator for a night, the philosopher Emanuele Coccia contributes his thoughts to a collective consideration of the politics of the living world.

Christine Rebet (née en 1971 à Lyon) est une artiste française dont le travail mêle dessin, animation et installation. Formée à Central Saint Martins et à Columbia, elle explore les traumatismes collectifs, les récits oubliés et les mythes personnels à travers des œuvres oniriques et hantées. Entre fiction et mémoire, son univers graphique donne forme aux failles de l’histoire. Elle vit entre Paris et New York.
